Lifespan Respite Care Program

In Rhode Island, OHA advocates for and administers different programs through the Lifespan Respite Care Program by partnering with community-based care partners that provide quality and accessible respite care, peer support, mentorship, advocacy and access to other resources to family members who care for older adults, a child with disability and the growing community of kinship families that need support.

Who qualifies as a Caregiver?

A Caregiver is a person who provides care and support to someone without financial compensation. If you help an older family member with daily activities such as cleaning, personal care, shopping trips or doctor’s appointments, interpretation at important appointments, and more; or if you are a parent caring for a minor with a disability, a grandparent or foster parent caring for a child consider yourself a Caregiver.

What is Respite?

Respite is planned or emergency care provided to a child or adult with special needs in order to provide temporary relief to family caregivers.
